There is a reason getting lost is the best way to explore this city. Venice, a place of charm, wonder, and a whole lot of water is the perfect place to spend lazy afternoons and mornings without a plan.
We got from the airport to the city the way everyone should- by water taxi! We, being the super light packers we are (ha!) had to take two taxis that took two decidedly different routes. Our taxi rounded the corner at Murano- more on that excursion later- and then went the long way around the island. It was gorgeous to round the corner and see St. Marks square in all of its glory!
If you get a chance to stay at the Hotel Danieli while in Venice, you should take it! The proximity to St. Mark’s is unbeatable and their bilini is the best you will ever have! This is the grand staircase and it is breathtaking!
We enjoyed a casual breakfast (or was it brunch? or lunch for that matter… the time change confusion was real) in the square where we spent the better part of three hours sipping cappucinos, nibbling panninos and getting a few licks of my sweet niece, Reylynn’s, gelato. With all the caffeine our jet lagged bodies could handle we made our way back to the hotel.
