Sometimes you just need a tropical getaway, amiright? With sun, sand, and tequila in mind we went in search of the perfect long weekend resort where a ton of nothing was on the agenda.
Denver to Riviera Maya is about a 3 hour plane ride which made it the perfect Mexico contender! We had heard wonderful things and wanted an all inclusive experience that felt luxurious. Enter the Fairmont Mayakoba! A perfect destination that is actually a 5-star resort that just happens to also do all inclusive if you want to pay for that. (Hint- you should pay for it!)
This resort was very jungle meets beach! In fact, it is built on 240 acres of tropical forest with rooms winding about the canals that cross the property. the rooms on the water are well worth the upgrade to feel like you are completely secluded in the small two story buildings.
The experience was everything we hoped it would be- we literally spent hours at a time under the umbrellas at the adults only pool. With an amazing staff that was attentive to our every need there was no reason to leave! If you are there ask for a coconut! It is a fresh coconut filled with fresh coconut water and it is exactly what you want when the sun is going to your head (or be like Frankie and order some rum on the side)!
The resort boasts four amazing restaurants and the all inclusive package included essentially anything you wanted – food or drink – from any menu! Breakfast was spent at the La Laguna restaurant and had a stunning buffet and an a la carte menu with both American and Mexican classics. For lunch, as was alluded to earlier, we did not move from the pool and the tacos did not disappoint!
Dinner was spent at two excellent restaurants, Las Brisas – was right on the beach, and El Puerto – home of the best sushi I have had in a long time! The showstopper of Las Brisas is the whole fish served table-side. It was so good we went back to get this for dinner twice!
Another amazing feature (and some may say detriment) of this resort is that it is so spread out. The resort has cruiser bikes placed all over the resort for its guest use and we sure did love riding them around! The bikes were great getting us from our room to the main pool, spa, gym and the beach area.
The one major bummer of the weekend was that the beach was basically un-usable because this area is experiencing a massive seaweed infestation! We did not really spend any time there because of this. Luckily the perfect infinity edge pool looking out over the jungle lagoon made up for it!
We finished our trip with some of the best sliders and Tequila!
